Diabetes is a chronic disease. Diabetic foot ulceration is one of the most frequent and serious complications with a significant negative impact on patients' quality of life. Typically, patients suffer from a loss of sensation to nerve stimuli in the lower limbs (neuropathy), followed by the development of diabetic foot ulcers, which in severe cases can lead to amputation.

Based on Ortomedical footwear designed for the diabetic foot and approved by the APDP (Association Protective of Diabetics of Portugal), the My Care Shoe was created, a shoe that incorporates several innovative technologies that are fully integrated into its structure and do not compromise comfort or safety. My Care Shoe has the following features: 3D monitoring of plantar and dorsal foot pressures; actuators that stimulate blood circulation and regulate pressure in foot areas of over pressure; temperature and humidity sensors to control risk parameters; and antimicrobial and antifungal properties that ensure safety.

Additionally, My Care Shoe connects to a mobile application, through which it is possible to view, in real time, the pressure in different regions and, in case of over pressure, to receive an alert from the system. This product thus allows for personalized diagnostic services to be carried out to define the specific characteristics of the patient.
